Doing this as a new thread as I am not 100% sure if this is related to AP Firmware 2.4n, but it seems to be the culprit.

I’m having major issues with my AP6-Pro’s right now. Normally my WiFi can sustain Gigabit speeds absolutely no problems but it seems since Firmware 2.4n I’ve got issues sustaining anything over 20Mbit plus while I do I get a huge amount of packet loss. I have done full access point factory resets, isolated the network by disabling everything and creating a new SSID and default settings etc with no success.

I can somewhat mitigate this if I set the 5GHz channel width to 20MHz - the packet loss seems to mostly stop (unless if I am absolutely smashing the radio) and the network goes in a usable state again but then somebody firing up a stream is enough to kill a teams call.

Doing some real digging on the AP itself via SSH it appears that despite the client associating to a HE80 BSS it is installed in the driver as IEEE80211\_MODE\_11AXA\_HE40 - it seems most clients phymode is forced to HE40.

If I kick a client from the access point using cfg80211tool the driver will then use IEEE80211\_MODE\_11AXA\_HE80 and speeds go back to normal (~900Mbit) but on a normal client reassociation we’re back to HE40 and terrible speeds once again indicating a potential driver bug.

Clients are mostly Apple - the main clients I used for testing in this case was a M3 MacBook Pro as well as an iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Happy to provide any logs or provide access for further investigation but think I have tried pretty much everything here. It is a smaller home network with just 3 access points. If I could downgrade AP firmware as a test that’ll be something worth trying to just isolate this firmware as being the potential cause.

Definitely not seeing anything like that in any of our test sites, nor production sites.

Feel free to invite me, and I can downgrade the firmware temporarily to see if there was a regression introduced.

Cheers to @Alta-Jeff for helping me diagnose this.

Still not sure exactly what was causing this, but appeared it was caused by something in the stable branch of 2.4n, a RC release didn’t have the issue. I also suspect I had an odd edge case.

Happy to say I’ve been unable to replicate this issue on 2.4o. Thanks!
