receive an invite to the site by the current user/owner, and ask for administration rights.

and

then remove the original/current user/owner

And there is actually no such thing as a site ownership as far as I understand, other than the administration rights of course.

In short, that is the procedure. They key being that there’s at least one account on the site that has full permissions.

While there is no “site owner” by verbiage, the “site owner” is inherently the account that created the site. However, this method effectively transfers ownership.
